1st Grade Apple Sauce-Making Project

Hope's 1st grade class took a field trip to Eckert's farm this past Wednesday and got to pick a bagful of apples. Today, their class had an opportunity to make homemade apple sauce with some of the apples that were freshly picked. We started with a hand-held peeler, but realized the applesauce would never be made, so then we borrowed a "fancy sha-mancy" apple peeler and core remover from Mrs. Heigel's 2nd grade class. Wow...talk about instant peeling!!! It actually makes me want to go out and buy one : )

After each kid individually peeled, cored and sliced an apple, they placed the apples with sugar and cinnamon in a big crock pot for slow-cooking. I bet their class is in for a real "treat" at snack time today!
