"In Salute To My Grandfather" by Noelle Burkey

I would like to honor my grandfather Robert P. Burkey on Veteran’s Day. My grandfather served as Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army. He served for 26 years from November 1968 until August 1993. He fought in Vietnam and he served in Germany; Fort Bragg, NC; Fort Carson, CO; Korea and the Middle East.

My grandfather earned around 25 medals for his service in the Army. Two of the biggest ones were a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. The Bronze Star was for heroic actions in combat. The Purple Heart is given to those wounded in combat.

I am thankful for my grandfather and others like him who helped give us the freedom we have in this country.
